Science
Throughout the science program, the predominant emphasis is on fostering delight and wonder as students learn about the fascinating mysteries of the natural world. In the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes, topics for study are often spontaneously adopted in response to the children's immediate interests. From kindergarten through eighth grade, the program covers a broad spectrum, with a balance among the life, earth, and physical sciences. Colorful trade books, activity logs, and hands-on experiments carried on in cooperative groups help students to understand the key concepts of science and to connect what they are learning to other areas of study
Middle School students compete every spring in a tri-county science competition for Middle and High School students sponsored by the Coriell Institute. Each year HFS students have proudly represented the school--- winning in both the local and regional competitions.
